Maintaining Your Spiritual Sensitivity

maintaining your spiritual sensitivity

The second coming of Jesus Christ is very imminent. One of the commands that Jesus Christ gave to His followers concerning His coming has to do with spiritual sensitivity. The scriptures charged us to guard against activities that can make us insensitive to the signs of His coming.

It is not the plan of God for that day to meet us unaware. However, this can happen, if we become distracted and insensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Christ mentioned three things that can weigh the spirit of a believer down and make it insensitive to divine signal. They are carousing, drunkenness and the cares of this life.

The Bible says, “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. Luke 21:34

The Nature of the Flesh

These three activities inflate the flesh over the spirit man. Thus, leaving a believer to the mercy of the flesh rather than the leading of the Holy Spirit. The flesh always wants to be pampered. For example, it prefers feasting to fasting, playing to praying, and sleeping to studying.

Have you not noticed that while watching movies you are very agile? But the moment you pick your bible to read you begin to yawn. That is the nature of the flesh, it prefers to be indulged. And when you indulge your flesh, you will make your spirit dull in discerning the things of the Spirit.

Jesus Christ says you should avoid activities that undermine your spiritual sensitivity. Cut down on activities that can choke your spirit, discipline your flesh and bring it into subjection to your spirit. Develop a lifestyle that enhances your spiritual sensitivity-fasting, praying, studying and meditating in the word and ministering to the Lord.
