The Wisdom the Spirit Gives

the wisdom the spirit gave

As the church was growing, there was a great need for more hands to handle some aspects of the ministry, so that the apostles could give themselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the word. Seven men full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom were recommended to the apostles.

These seven disciples are men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom. After the apostles had prayerfully considered them, they laid hands on them, commissioning them to serve the people.

Among these seven men was Stephen, who did not use his assignment inside the church, as an excuse from reaching out to the people outside the church. The Bible recorded, that he did great wonders and signs among the people.

On one of such outreaches, Stephen encountered a group of religious people, who rose up to dispute with him. But the Bible says, “But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.” Acts 6:10 NIV

The Holy Spirit Gives Wisdom

I know we are all familiar with the Holy Ghost giving us utterance as we pray, but here, He gave Stephen wisdom as he spoke. Stephen won over the people because he engaged them with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit.

The church seems to have limited the Holy Spirit to what He can do, in the place of prayer. We have not so much leveraged on His ministry in our interactions with people in the world.

The intent of God is, that through the church His manifold wisdom will be made known to the rulers and authorities, in the heavenly realms. This will only be possible, as the Spirit gives us wisdom.

As believers, we need to begin to walk in the consciousness of the presence of the Holy Spirit within us. We need to deliberately involve the Spirit of the Lord, in our everyday activities. It will amaze you, how many wins you will always come back with, through the wisdom of the Holy Ghost.
